The Team provides a vital service in transporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities (SEND), on their journeys between home and school ensuring they are supported as needed to access their education.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Providing operational supervision and personal development reviews for a diverse team of employees including Drivers and Passenger Assistants.
  • Undertaking operational routing processes, producing, maintaining and improving transport routes for services provided by SCC Transport.
  • Undertaking Risk Assessments in accordance with procedures for new passengers entering the service.
  • Liaising with external transport providers and undertaking appropriate contract management, monitoring and enforcement activity.
  • Monitoring and processing of contractors’ financial claims
  • Ensuring the efficient use of resources in areas of responsibility in order to ensure provision of high quality, cost effective services as well as value for money for customers and clients.
  • Promoting efficient communications within Transport Services and with the rest of the Council, other councils and external clients and agencies.
  • Supporting Transport Management in ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory requirements relating to Transport Service functions.
     

Successful candidates will be committed team players who are organised, flexible and dedicated to providing the highest standards of customer service. They will:

  • Have excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to liaise effectively with parents, schools and other agencies.
  • Have a flexible approach to meet the needs of our customers and the service where demands on our resources can fluctuate.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to support and challenge
  • Have experience of working under pressure and achieving deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have experience of route planning and supervision in a service environment
  • Be competent on all Microsoft Word applications and generally IT literate
  • Be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and be part of a rotating shift system that operates between the hours of 6.30am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
