If youâre someone who is passionate about protecting and enhancing our natural environment, this role is for you. Youâll thrive if you enjoy working outdoors, solving complex problems, and making decisions that balance safety, sustainability, and biodiversity. If youâre motivated by community engagement and want to make a visible impact on public spaces, highways, and countryside areas, youâll find this position both rewarding and meaningful.
Whatâs the role all about?
As a Tree and Woodlands Safety Officer, youâll play a vital role in managing and conserving the boroughâs tree stock. Your work ensures the health, safety, and sustainability of trees across highways, public open spaces, schools, and council land. From implementing the Tree Risk Management Plan to advising on arboriculture matters, youâll be at the heart of safeguarding our green infrastructure and promoting biodiversity.
What will your day look like?
You will be out and about inspecting trees to ensure theyâre safe and healthy, maintaining accurate records, and using your expertise to guide decisions on arboriculture matters. Youâll engage with communities on tree planting initiatives, support colleagues on large-scale projects, and specify works for contractors. Alongside this, youâll contribute to shaping local policy, promote biodiversity, and champion sustainable tree management across the borough.
Who are we looking for?
Weâre seeking someone with strong arboriculture expertise and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Youâll need a Level 4 qualification in Arboriculture (or equivalent experience), LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection certification, and a solid understanding of tree health, legislation, and biodiversity. Excellent communication skills, IT proficiency, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. A valid UK driving licence is required, and you should be comfortable working outdoors in all conditions.
