This is a full-time, permanent role as part of the council’s Corporate Leadership Team, with hybrid working (in the office at least two days a week), and a salary of £72,400 - £101,125 per annum.

This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative and inspiring leader to join the council’s Corporate Leadership Team to be our new Assistant Director – Strategy and Engagement.
The Role:
Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will lead and develop RBWM’s policy, strategy, performance, transformation, and communications and engagement functions to deliver high quality and efficient services to our residents and businesses. You will also be responsible for:
- Overseeing the effective communication, embedding and delivery of RBWM’s new Council Plan which sets out the vision for the borough, the council and our strategic priorities over the next four years.
- Ensuring effective and efficient oversight of all aspects of the council’s performance management framework including business, economic and demographic intelligence.
- Taking the lead – with the Monitoring Officer – to continue to embed good governance across the organisation.
- Working with internal stakeholders to put in place the required infrastructure to support delivery of the council’s new ambitious Future Shape RBWM corporate transformation programme.
- Developing and driving forward key areas of corporate strategy such as including cost of living support, support to vulnerable people, demand management and net zero.
- Supporting the CEO in the delivery of objectives through the new Berkshire Prosperity Board which aims to promote economic development across the county and support the devolution of functions from central to local government.
- Re-vamping the council’s approach to internal and external communications, engagement and consultation – learning from and embedding best practice and making the council’s communications engaging and fit for the 21st century.

- Proven experience of leading and developing high performing teams which a fast-paced environment.
- A track record of developing a vision of high quality, effective & improving services.
- Experience of leading and managing change, resulting in measurable service improvements.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to provide strategic direction.
- Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively and building relationships with senior stakeholders.
