We deliver operational services within the Neighbourhood Services Directorate.

We are seeking to appoint to the role of ‘Facilities Manager – Cabon Reduction’ with specific responsibility for managing the Council’s Building Energy Management System, specialising in managing the Council’s use of energy and assisting in the development and implementation low and net zero projects to achieve the Council’s strategic ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

The post available has distinct responsibilities, but the successful candidate will be expected to provide cover for colleagues within the Facilities Management Carbon Reduction Team and work collaboratively in this key area of the Council’s sustainability agenda.

The primary responsibility of the role will be to manage, monitor, and maintain the Council’s Building Energy Management System (BEMS). The Council’s BEMS system is connected to over 150 sites across the corporate, housing and school estates. The role will involve using the BEMS to deal with enquiries from sites, provide advice, investigate faults, make alterations to settings, and produce reports and recommendations to reduce energy usage. Experience of working on a BEMS is essential for this role.

Most Council sites are currently connected via a TREND 963 system, but we are in the process of updating the system to IQ Vision.

In addition to the specific responsibilities of the role detailed above the successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a small team focusing on Council decarbonisation, improving the Council’s assets and services to achieve net zero by 2030 and reducing running costs. This will involve undertaking energy audits, writing reports and assisting with the implementation of carbon reduction projects.

You will support, challenge, and influence across the Council to adopt policies, strategies and plans and otherwise act through a programme of interventions and activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including decarbonising property, energy, and carbon off-setting schemes.

You will collaborate with partners and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability across the Council.

You will have:

  • Experience of working with building energy management systems.
  • Significant practical experience of working in the environment and sustainability agenda with a good grounding in a technical background.
  • Experience of developing corporate strategy, policy and plans relating to sustainability matters.
  • Experience of working on sustainability projects.

Be able to work under your own initiative, prioritise own workloads, have excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills.

Applicants will need to be familiar with using IT systems such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and must be able to analyse data and provide analytical reports to senior managers.
