We have a role which offers a unique opportunity to influence fire safety strategy across a diverse portfolio that includes offices, frontline service buildings, residential and commercial properties.

 About the Role

Working closely with a broader compliance team, you will lead on the management and assurance of fire safety across the Council's estate.

Working closely with colleagues, contractors, consultants and stakeholders, you will:

  • Act as the Council's fire safety specialist.
  • Oversee and quality assure fire risk assessments and fire safety reports.
  • Manage external specialist contractors delivering fire safety programmes and projects.
  • Undertake site inspections, audits and technical assessments.
  • Monitor compliance and provide assurance that fire risks are being effectively managed.
  • Develop and improve fire safety policies, procedures and risk management arrangements.
  • Provide expert advice on building projects, refurbishments and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote a positive fire safety culture through engagement, training and awareness initiatives.
  • Support the development of risk-based investment programmes to improve fire safety across the estate.

As part of the role, you will lead site visits and projects relating to improving fire safety on those sites.

The role offers hybrid working, with your main office location being one of the main NYC office hubs- depending on which is closest to you. There will be an expectation to conduct site visits as needed, and occasional meeting in County Hall, Northallerton, however you would also be able to work from home on non-office/ site visit days.

About You

We're looking for a knowledgeable and proactive fire safety professional who can provide expert guidance while building strong relationships across a complex organisation.

You will have:

Essential

  • Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety.
  • Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) or Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM).
  • Strong knowledge of current fire safety legislation, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective fire risk management processes.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.
