The Falkland Islands Government (FIG), Directorate of Health & Social Services (DHSS) are looking for an experienced Care Home Manager, who can draw on their expertise in managing all aspects of our brand-new care home, ensuring it runs as efficiently as possible whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality, professional standards and business performance targets.

 Providing person-centred care, delivering excellent quality outcomes and supporting our residents and our teams are critical to our ethos and we are looking for someone to join our team, who can lead by example and make a difference to the lives of others by demonstrating professionalism and attention to detail.

The Role

As a key member of the DHSS Senior Management Team (SMT), the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of all strategic and operational management for the entirety of this newly developed Care Home facility, including providing support to residential-services and day-services.  The post holder will also deputise for the Director of Health and Social Services at relevant meetings/events, or during prolonged periods of absence. 

You will monitor the wellbeing of each resident, ensuring all staff are supported and always promoting independence and well-being by ensuring that residents’ personal, psychological, and social care needs are met.  You will be the focal point of all family, resident and professionals contact in the home.

Your team will be extremely important too, looking to provide inspirational leadership and daily management. Working alongside the clinical services lead (Community Support Services Manager), you will undertake regular staff recruitment, embedding an open culture to empower your staff to be the best team possible, always looking to demonstrate our values of being Proud, Supportive and Caring.

Working in conjunction with the Director, Hospital Manager, the Chief Nursing Officer and the Community Support Team Manager, this key post has been developed to ensure to the delivery and development of high-quality care services and their continuous improvement for the Falkland Islands.

It is a challenging post and the postholder will need to be able to deal with changing and, at times, conflicting priorities due to the competing demands and pressures of the service. 

Although not a directly service user/patient facing role, the applicant will still be working across the site and so must agree to maintain the strictest standards of patient confidentiality including signing the Directorate code of confidentiality.

 The Person

  • Holds a (minimum) BSc (or equivalent) in Health & Social Care or in a similar relevant field, or demonstrable evidence of equivalent work experience operating at this level.
  • Minimum of 6 years successful work experience in care provision at a level that reflects the responsibilities of this post e.g. as a Commissioning Home Manager, Care Home Manager, Elderly Care Manager, Registered Manager, Home Manager, Area Manager, Peripatetic Manager, Residential Home Manager, ideally operating under UK legislation and care standards
  • At least 5+ years demonstrable effective leadership/management experience; ideally gained through Care Home management roles in the UK or similar
  • RQF / NVQ 5 (or equivalent) in Leadership and Management for Health & Social Care (or similar)
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong knowledge of the requirements of the fundamental standards of care provision as regulated by the UK’s Care Quality Commission (CQC) as well as a working knowledge of Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), Safeguarding and other relevant statutes and regulations applicable to this role
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Certification
  • Able to demonstrate flexible and personable management and communication skills necessary to lead and support the team
  • Flexible approach to work as there is a requirement to be on-call on alternate
  • A true understanding of ‘one-team’ ethos
  • Be a consummate professional in all environs; through leadership of the team, management of the administrative functions and as a key member of the Directorate of Health and Social Services, Senior Management Team.
  • Must uphold the values and standards of the organisation; even when off-duty; noting the additional responsibility such a senior position brings within a small Island community.
  • Be able to manage a budget of £3.25million (Operational and Capital) within the delegated areas of responsibility.

The Package

  • Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
  • Starting Salary £44,955 up to £51,587 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) rising to £60,805 per annum.
  • Eligibility for 25% Gratuity (taxable), paid upon successful completion of the contract.
  • 41 days paid leave, 30 days paid annual leave plus 11 government and public holidays.
