Are you someone who can support and mentor educational clients to make impactful health and safety related decisions?

We are looking for a qualified (Level 3 or above) Health and Safety Risk Advisor, to join our forward thinking and motivated team of H&S professionals working across North Yorkshire and beyond.

Our aim is to empower our clients and teams to make informed decisions relating to health and safety.

We work very closely with school leaders to encourage the provision of an engaging curriculum to bring variety and practical elements into their student learning, e.g., practical science, physical education or design and technology lessons all whilst working safely.

The Role

You will work across the education sector to support and improve health and safety and helping to embed positive safety cultures. You will support our clients to provide safe educational environments that encourages learning.

This role is varied and whilst knowledge of health and safety in educational environments and/or fire safety would be an advantage we will consider your application whatever your health and safety background.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across the stunning landscapes of Skipton and Craven—an area of outstanding natural beauty—while also supporting clients in the wider North West. This role offers a great balance of flexibility: your time will be split between on-site visits and working from home, with the option to use one of our offices if you prefer.

As a Health and Safety Risk Advisor you will have good negotiation skills to advise on health and safety both statutory requirements and best practice to support our clients to continuously improve

You will be supported by an innovative team of H&S professionals, with a wide variety of knowledge and experience, where you are able to influence but also develop your own professional skills. We are committed to supporting you in this by providing opportunities for training and mentoring.

At Entry Level (Grade I), You Will:

  • Work independently in low to medium-risk environments.
  • Provide practical health and safety advice to clients.
  • Conduct audits, inspections and fire risk assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate low-impact incidents and recommend improvements.
  • Deliver engaging briefings that help embed safe working practices.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, supporting safe and positive environments for learning and work.

As You Progress to Grade J/K, You Will:

  • Manage complex and higher-risk environments with greater operational challenges.
  • Act as an autonomous practitioner, using professional judgment to intervene and stop unsafe practices when necessary.
  • Lead the development of new systems of work where existing methods fall short.
  • Investigate serious incidents and provide strategic advice to senior leaders.
  • Represent the service at internal and external meetings.
  • Influencing policy development.
  • Occasionally lead specialist projects that shape health and safety practices across the organisation.

Progression to Grade J/K reflects your experience, technical expertise, and ability to manage complex risk scenarios. It also requires proven capability to deliver high-level professional advice with minimal supervision.

What you will bring:

In your supporting evidence, please include evidence of;

  • A level 3 Accredited Occupational Safety and Health Qualification (NEBOSH), or equivalent, as recognised by IOSH.

We are looking for a highly flexible professional, well-motivated, self-starter who possesses excellent communication skills and a commitment to ensuring the highest level of health and safety.

Due to the travel requirements of the role, you must have a full driving license and access to a vehicle.
