Bolton’s Council is looking to recruit a Strategic Lead to provide public health expertise, skills and leadership within a vibrant public health directorate with big ambitions. Your role will be pivotal to decision making, influencing and changing the lives of people who live and work in Bolton. This role will deliver:

  • Strategic leadership for population health care and prevention, working across a wide range of statutory and non-statutory agencies, and community and voluntary organisations in the development of effective partnerships.
  • Strong leadership in the development and implementation of public health strategies and policies, to protect and improve health and life expectancy and to reduce inequalities across Bolton.
  • Strategic leadership of health protection functions to protect the health of the population, with a strong focus on health inequalities.
  • Development of appropriate health and care services, including commissioning of public health programmes and delivery, and action on the wider determinants of health.

You will work with the Public Health senior leadership team to formulate strategic direction, priorities and plans for the directorate.  The portfolio for this post will be focused on core areas of healthcare public health and health protection but with opportunities to work across a broad programme of work to achieve public health objectives.

You will be a team player, enthusiastic to work with an able and dedicated team of public health practitioners and contribute to continuing team development.

About You

As a highly motivated public health expert, you will be committed to strategic leadership within the directorate and across Bolton. You will be able to use your communication skills to negotiate with, and influence others at all levels.

You will be able to design, develop, interpret and influence policy and strategy, and manage resources well. You will use your high level understanding of population health care, prevention and health protection to inform your decisions and guide you in your commitment to public health principles.

You’ll be self-motivated and innovative whilst also working well within a team and leading by example.
