Help us promote highest standards of practice within our Mental Health team.

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and businesses at the heart of everything we do, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Committed to acting with openness, honesty, compassion and humility, we aim to listen and understand in a way that is respectful, encourages involvement and meets the needs of all our communities.

The Role:

As Practice Manager with our Mental Health team, you’ll provide professional and managerial expertise while promoting good practice and the highest standards of care. You’ll also support managers and social care staff in the assessment of supported accommodation and placement with a view to promoting the independence of people with mental health problems following their discharge from hospital.

In detail, your work will involve acting as the professional lead for mental health social work within the team and wider service, as well as carrying a small caseload that includes complex assessments and court proceedings. Undertaking continuous risk assessment and risk management for users working with the team, you’ll keep up to date with relevant research and legislation, and make an important contribution to service improvement initiatives. We’ll also require you to undertake standard audits of social work practice within the team, manage adult safeguarding enquiries, and assess any child protection issues that arise.

You’ll have a wide range of additional responsibilities, including reviewing monthly KPIs, ensuring financial standards are met, and working with the Team Manager to develop an effective annual business plan. We’ll also expect you to develop a workforce that meets our service needs through recruitment, retention, training, development and performance management, supervise newly qualified social workers, and ensure staff receive regular and consistent supervision of their practice.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

With a Dip SW/CQSW or its equivalent, you’ll be a registered social worker, be a qualified Approved Mental Health Professional and possess professional leadership and management experience. Additionally, with post-qualification experience which includes working in the community with older people who have enduring mental health problems, you’ll also have well developed practical knowledge of the legislation, statutory guidance and best practice that underpins social work and care for adults.

We’ll expect you to have experience of translating statutes into policy and practice, of performance/audit tasks and quality assurance, and of complex multi-disciplinary work. Ready to supervise both staff and students, and with well developed practice skills, you’ll be a skilled chair and constructive participant in a variety of meeting environments. An inspirational leader and delegator, and capable of making effective decisions under pressure, you should also possess the ability to provide professional guidance to your colleagues involved in our duty and out-of-hours services.

Join us, and you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays. And as a key member of our team, you’ll also have plenty of opportunities for development and progression within our organisation.
