Are you able to make sound, evidence‑based and proportionate health and safety decisions? Can you influence and advise others on health and safety matters to help improve safety performance?

We are looking for an experienced Senior Health and Safety Risk Adviser, to join our forward thinking and motivated team of H&S professionals working across North Yorkshire.

The Role

You will work across a wide range of services, playing a key role in strengthening health and safety compliance and helping to foster a positive and proactive safety culture. Working closely with service teams and managers, you will provide clear, practical advice and support to help create and maintain safe, healthy workplace environments.

This role is varied and knowledge and experience in the key areas below would be an advantage:

  • Children’s and/or Adults health and safety
  • Housing
  • Environment service (waste, enforcement, parks and grounds)
  • Fire safety – Fire risk assessment for low/medium risk premises
  • CDM – experience of client monitoring of construction sites. 

However, whatever your background, we will provide training and mentoring to cover the above.

 As a Senior Health and Safety Risk Adviser you will have good negotiation skills, advise on compliance with statutory requirements, support the implementation of good practice to continuously improve and make a difference.

 You will be supported by an innovative team of H&S professionals with a wide variety of knowledge and experience, where you are able to influence change for continuous improvement in our health and safety practice.

The role is hybrid, and you will be based at one of the key NYC offices, however you may be required to travel across the county to support the service.

What you will bring;

In your supporting evidence, please include evidence of;

  • A level 5 Accredited Occupational Safety and Health Course (recognised by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) (or equivalent - Equivalence will be the mix of qualifications and/or experience that has or can achieve Certified membership of IOSH)
  • Proven and effective experience of delivery of a “competent person” role
  • Effective persuasion, influencing and negotiating skills
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
