The role will be responsible for supporting adults to develop their abilities to enable them to live as independently as possible. This may include moving and handling assessments, the provision of equipment, environmental assessments adaptations (including major adaption recommendations), functional assessments, liaising with partner colleagues in health and universal services and utilising wider Adult Social Care services.

You will be part of a multi-skilled team drawing on your skills as an Occupational Therapist to support and motivate all through educating and modelling good practice. In addition to overseeing complex cases you will support with the delivery of services to defined standards, engaging in initiatives when requested by your manager.

There will also be a commitment required to support the West Essex quadrant as a whole through your robust practice delivery, strong decision making and with a vision to promote people's independence and wellbeing utilising activity and engagement in occupation, through a strength-based approach.

You will be able to support in a supervisory approach, supporting quality-based practice providing good practice advice that enables the practitioners to develop and learn, utilising your skills as an educator.

The Team

The West Essex Physical and Sensory Impairments Team cover Harlow, Epping and Uttlesford. We support people from eighteen years old with a wide range of conditions and difficulties including (but not exclusively): Acquired Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke (CVA), Huntington's Disease and Fibromyalgia. The team is made up of Social Workers, a specialist Sensory Social Worker, Occupational Therapists and Community Support Workers.

The team support people with a variety of complex physical health difficulties, including neurological conditions and sensory issues. They co-work with adults, families, NHS colleagues, Housing, Mental Health and provider services to improve people's lives and wellbeing. They always encourage adults to be as independent as possible through focussed support.

About You

To apply, you'll need a degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent qualification, with current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.

You'll bring significant experience of Occupational Therapy in a social care setting, along with evidence of continuing professional development, and capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards. You will have experience of mentoring both newly qualified and experienced staff and being a subject matter expert in professional practice.

There is a need for attention to detail and a strong knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Health Act and Deprivation of Liberty and Court of Protection procedures.

This role involves travelling around Essex and beyond. A driving licence and car - or the ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means - is essential.

As part of employment with Essex County Council (ECC) should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service.
