What’s the role all about?

NELC’s Street Cleansing Service operates a busy and efficient operation delivering essential services across the borough. The team consists of 30+ employees working across two shifts on a 4 days on, 4 days off rota, equating to a 42-hour working week (annual salary enhanced to reflect this).

The service plays a vital role in maintaining the appearance and safety of adopted highways and rivers, contributing directly to the quality of life for residents and visitors.

What will your day look like?

As part of the Street Cleansing team, you’ll be involved in the upkeep and maintenance of the borough’s adopted highways and rivers. You’ll work both independently and as part of a wider team, adapting to different environments and situations throughout your shift.

Full training will be provided, including the use of a variety of vehicles required for the role. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is fit, agile and adaptable, able to work alone when required or collaboratively as part of a larger team. You’ll act as an ambassador for the Authority, presenting yourself in a polite, professional and courteous manner to members of the public.

The ideal candidate will be:

• Self-motivated and confident in making decisions
• Well-organised with strong planning and organisational skills
• Comfortable assessing situations and using sound judgement
• Able to manage effective working relationships
• Skilled in reading situations and responding appropriately and consistently
