Highways and Transport is back at North East Lincolnshire Council, creating a rare opportunity to be part of something from the beginning. 

As we grow the Council's Streetworks team, we’re bringing together talented people who want to do more than simply deliver services. We’re looking for someone who can take a leading role within a small team, to help effectively manage the co-ordination and permitting of works on the highway.  In doing so, the role will be key to minimising traffic disruption and ensuring effective relationships are forged and maintained with Utility companies undertaking works on our road network.

As an Engineer in the Streetworks team you will have the opportunity to use your existing skills, knowledge and professional expertise to make your mark, grow your career and help shape the future of Highways and Transport in North East Lincolnshire. 

What will your day look like? 

As an Engineer (Permit Co-ordination), you’ll take a leading role in co-ordinating and assessing the impact of proposed highway works in line with the North East Lincolnshire Permit Scheme (NELPS), and New Roads & Street Works Act (1991).  You’ll use your professional judgement to assess permit requests, interpret standards, and develop solutions collaboratively with works promoters to ensure essential and reactive programmes can be delivered.   

You will mainly be office based although you will regularly need to attend sites across North East Lincolnshire so the ability to transport yourself efficiently and effectively between sites is essential.   

You’ll also provide professional Streetworks advice to colleagues, elected Members and the public, helping resolve issues and support good decision-making by interpretating potentially technical information for a non-technical audience.   

You will work with colleagues to develop and draft performance reports on a regular basis to demonstrate service demand and compliance with relevant policies and statutory requirements.   

Who are we looking for? 

We’re looking for someone with experience of Local Authority permit schemes (or similar) who is comfortable working within a small team to ensure compliance with the required policies and statutory guidance.  You will need to be a good communicator, have strong analytical skills and good attention to detail.   

You’ll need good organisational skills, the ability to translate complex technical matters into clear, accessible information and a good understanding of the geography and highway network in North Est Lincolnshire.  You’ll be comfortable working with drawings, specifications, reports, data & risk assessments and confident using different IT packages 

You’ll also understand the importance of collaboration. This role will suit someone who can take ownership, build relationships and deliver practical solutions that work for everyone who travels around North East Lincolnshire.
