Salary: £29,269 - £32,076

Hours: 18.5 hrs

Contract: Permanent

Location: Harrogate Locality but may need to cover areas within North Yorkshire if necessary

We are looking for a Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our Housing Service supporting the residents of Harrogate locality.

The role

As our Temporary Accommodation Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Council’s temporary accommodation for homeless households. You will ensure residents have access to Support Officers whilst residing in temporary accommodation and ensure properties are maintained to a high standard through adequate reporting structures. You will arrange the inspection of void properties from vacation, clearance, repairs, and lettings, to ensure vacancy periods and income loss are minimised. You will ensure all relevant paperwork is completed at sign up, fully explaining the conditions of occupancy to the resident and are responsible for organising the collection of temporary accommodation charges from residents in the council’s own temporary accommodation. You will also ensure breaches of licence within temporary accommodation are resolved promptly and satisfactorily in accordance with the council’s approved policies and procedures, recommending Possession action to the Team leaders where appropriate. You will work effectively with customers who have multiple complex needs and carry out room checks and welfare checks

What you will bring

This is a very challenging role that requires someone who is resilient, has empathy and patience to deal with clients in difficult situations. You will also have:

  • Have a good working knowledge and understanding of the Homeless Reduction Act 201
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  •  IT literate
  •  Safeguarding awareness
  •  Excellent time management with the focus on prioritising own workload
  •  Ability to use your own initiative and as a team member
  • The ability to participate in an out of hours stand by rota on an occasional basis
