About the Role:
We are looking to recruit a Trainee Solicitor - Governance and Commerical, during which time you will complete a period of recognised training in accordance with the SRA’s regulations. The successful candidate will undertake a mix of contentious and non-contentious work to meet the requirements of the Practice Skills Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Although the successful candidate will undertake work across a number of areas including but with a strong focus on governance alongside contracts and procurement, commercial property, and litigation, the successful candidate will be working alongside the Head of Legal while based predominantly in the Commercial Law Team.
What will be expected from me?
Applicants must be able to demonstrate either relevant experience or a clear and genuine interest of local government governance. This may include (but is not limited to) governance related employment, academic study, work experience, placements, volunteering, or other activities relevant to governance within a local authority or public sector context. Applicants should clearly evidence this within their supporting statement. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate and maintain an interest in commercial contracts, public procurement and property law during the training period.
Essential requirements:
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals who have, or will have, successfully completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and are ready to commence work full time, and who are passionate and committed to the prospect of working in Local Government.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake the Professional Skills Course (PSC) during their training period. The Council will pay for the successful candidate’s first attempt of the PSC.
We are particularly interested in candidates with a 2:1 law degree or above (or equivalent) (or a degree in any discipline at 2:1 or above (or equivalent) and the Graduate Diploma in Law with commendation or above) and the LPC with commendation or above (unless exempted). In the event of a high volume of applicants the Council will shortlist candidates meeting these criteria.
